Sarus Crane (Grus Antigone) is the state bird of state of Uttar Pradesh. These birds are the tallest non-migratory crane found in the Indian Subcontinent. They are found in Northern and Central India and are commonly seen in paddy fields during their nesting season. They often seen foraging in freshwater marshes and plains. The species can be easilu distinguished from other cranes in the region by the overall grey coloration and the contrasting red red head and upper neck. Males and females look alike, but their young ones are duller and browner.
